Coffee for a fully automatic machine: the right coffee beans make all the difference

A fully automatic coffee machine grinds the beans just before brewing. This helps preserve their aroma, fragrance and flavour. To get the most out of your machine, choosing the right coffee beans is just as important as adjusting the settings. Coffee that is well suited to a fully automatic machine ensures balanced extraction, a beautiful layer of crema and consistent quality in every cup.

How does a fully automatic machine work?

A fully automatic machine automatically grinds the desired amount of coffee beans for each cup and forces water through the ground coffee at high pressure. This process produces an espresso, lungo or speciality coffee with a full flavour and rich aroma. Many fully automatic machines also have an integrated milk system for cappuccinos, flat whites and other milk-based drinks.

Because the machine handles the grinding itself, it is important to always use whole coffee beans. This gives you maximum freshness and lets you easily adjust the grind size to suit your personal taste.

Which coffee is best for a fully automatic machine?

Almost all high-quality coffee beans are suitable for a fully automatic coffee machine, but balanced blends and espresso roasts often deliver the most consistent results. These coffees produce a full body, a beautiful crema and a flavour that works wonderfully both as espresso and in milk-based drinks.

Do you prefer a smooth, approachable coffee? Then a medium-roast blend is an excellent choice. For those who enjoy a strong espresso, darker-roasted espresso beans with notes of chocolate, nuts and caramel are particularly suitable. Would you rather discover the unique flavour of a single origin? Then our Single Estate coffees offer a surprising and refined taste experience.

Which grind size is suitable?

For a fully automatic coffee machine, always use whole coffee beans. The machine grinds them just before brewing, helping the coffee retain its aroma. Adjust the grind size on the machine itself. In general, a slightly finer grind gives a more intense flavour, while a coarser grind results in gentler extraction.
Most brands also recommend a coarser grind for dark-roasted beans and a finer grind for light or medium roasts.
By making small adjustments, you can easily find the setting that works best for your favourite coffee.

With freshly roasted coffee beans and a properly adjusted fully automatic machine, you can enjoy coffee with rich flavour, a beautiful layer of crema and excellent balance every day.
