Pure black tea

Pure black tea: strength, character and centuries-old tradition

Black tea is the most widely consumed type of tea worldwide and is known for its full flavour and rich aromas. During production, the tea leaves are fully oxidised. This gives them their dark colour and develops distinctive flavour notes such as malt, honey, cocoa, wood, dried fruit or a subtle spiciness. This versatility is precisely what has made black tea a favourite with tea lovers around the world for centuries.

At De Zeeuwse Sommelier, you will find an extensive collection of pure loose-leaf black teas from the leading tea-producing countries. For example, Assam from India is known for its robust, malty character and full body, while Darjeeling is an elegant, refined tea with fresh, floral aromas. Ceylon from Sri Lanka offers a lively, fresh flavour, Keemun from China is smooth and slightly sweet with subtle smoky notes, and Golden Yunnan stands out for its warm, honey-like character. Each origin has its own flavour profile and tells the story of its climate, soil and craftsmanship.

Loose-leaf black tea offers a clear advantage over many standard tea bags. The larger tea leaves have enough room to fully unfurl as they steep. This allows the fragrance, flavour and aroma to come through much better, resulting in a richer, more balanced cup of tea.

For the best results, use water at a temperature of around 95 to 100°C. Then let the tea steep for 3 to 5 minutes, depending on the type and desired strength. A shorter steep produces a milder flavour, while a longer steep gives the tea more body and intensity. Many pure black teas are also excellent for multiple infusions, with each steep revealing new flavour nuances.

Pure black tea is wonderfully versatile. A robust Assam or English Breakfast makes an ideal morning tea and pairs perfectly with breakfast. A refined Darjeeling or Keemun is a lovely choice for a light lunch or an leisurely afternoon tea. Some black teas are delicious on their own, while others pair beautifully with a splash of milk or a little honey.

Whether you choose a robust breakfast tea or a refined tea with a complex flavour, our collection offers carefully selected, high-quality loose-leaf black teas. Enjoy an authentic tea experience every day, bringing together flavour, origin and craftsmanship.
