Sustainably grown tea

In the coming months, we will be working on expanding our range of sustainable teas.

We expect to have built up a collection of over 100 teas by 2027 that have been grown sustainably, without chemical additives.

For now, we use the "100% Sustainable" label with the green dot next to the product photo. We are considering SKAL certification in the future, so that we can officially call these teas "organic" in the future.

Sustainably grown tea

Why choose sustainably grown tea?

More and more tea lovers feel it is important to consider not only taste and quality, but also how tea is grown. Sustainably grown tea comes from production that pays greater attention to the environment, soil, biodiversity and the conditions in which the tea is cultivated. That is why we have brought together teas in this collection that suit a conscious choice.

Here you’ll find a variety of teas and infusions. Think green tea from China, strong black tea from India and Sri Lanka, as well as rooibos, herbal teas and special varieties such as matcha. This way, you don’t have to give up your favourite flavour when choosing a more sustainable option.

Organic and sustainably grown are not necessarily the same thing. Organic tea meets specific organic production standards and certification requirements. Van Hilst Koffie en Thee is not certified to sell purchased tea as organic. That is why we use the label "100% Sustainable" for tea that is sourced organically.

At De Zeeuwse Sommelier, we believe that making conscious choices should go hand in hand with enjoyment. That is why we look for teas in our range that are not only interesting because of their origin and production methods, but above all because of their taste. From a fresh organic Sencha to a robust Assam or a refined Chinese green tea: sustainability need not come at the expense of quality.
