No. 254 Japan Gyokuro Asahi
Kan de ophaalmogelijkheden niet weergeven
Description
The beautiful, flat, pointed, emerald-green needles provide a mild taste and a subtle aroma. Gyokuro means "precious dew". This Japanese Gyokuro is organically grown, which is still a rarity in Japan. Japanese green tea generally has a savory (umami) taste and the aroma is often vegetal - green like grass, spinach, etc. This is in contrast to Chinese tea, which is often sweeter.
Gyokuro tea is shaded for part of the growing season with a mat of bamboo leaves. This happens about 2 weeks before harvest. The plant then grows more slowly and produces more chlorophyll. This makes the taste more intense and also sweeter. The brewed Gyokuro tea has a beautiful bright green color.
Brewing advice Japanese method
Fill the bottom of a Kyusu, which is a small Japanese teapot, with tea leaves. Fill the teapot 2/3 with 60-degree water. Let the tea steep for 30 seconds and strain through a sieve. By pouring the teapot out in small amounts, you prevent the spout from getting clogged.
For a 2nd and 3rd infusion, repeat this process twice but with 80-degree water (steeping for 10 seconds) and 100 degrees (30 seconds). Especially the 3rd infusion is bitter in taste. Vary with a shorter steeping time or a lower temperature to make it a bit more pleasant for yourself.

Frequently Asked Questions
We have briefly summarized the essential information here.
Still have questions? Contact us via our contact page.
How is the tea packaged?
All our loose-leaf tea is packaged in airtight (sealed) bags. The packaging, of course, includes a description of the tea, brewing instructions, and ingredients.
We package your tea with each order. This means that we create and fill the packaging to order.
How long does the tea keep?
Loose tea stores well. In its sealed packaging, the tea is at least good until the date on the package. For pure tea, this is often 2 years. For flavored tea, 1.5 years.

Sustainable packaging
To help protect the environment, we reuse as much used packaging material as possible. If boxes are still sturdy enough, we use them to pack orders. Some boxes may look a little more "used" than others. If a box is no longer sturdy enough, it is shredded and used as filling material to protect items such as porcelain and earthenware.
If a box looks damaged when it arrives, please let us know as soon as possible. Ideally, please email us a photo so we can take a look with you.
How is tea best stored?
Simply put: store in a cool, dry place.
It is best to store your tea in its closed packaging at room temperature. But once it is open, you can seal the packaging tightly with, for example, a clip or clothespin. But this is neither very nice nor practical.
It is important that as little oxygen as possible can get to your tea. So a sealable tin or jar is handy. And it looks nice.
Light is also not good, so bags with a window or glass jars are less suitable, unless you store them in a dark cabinet.
Delivery time
For almost all items, the delivery time is 1 to 2 business days. On Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, all packages are dispatched. If an order is placed before 4:00 PM on one of those days, it will usually be delivered the same day.
For coffee, sometimes (when the coffee still needs to be roasted) we need a little extra time. You will then receive a super fresh product. We opt for the highest quality, and that takes a little extra time.
Pay
You can easily pay with iDEAL, Mastercard or Visa Card with 3D Secure. Safe and reliable.
Of course, you can also pay by manual bank transfer. Please include your order number so that we can quickly link your payment to your order.
