Classic Jade Oolong tea

The tea has a clear amber color in the cup and has floral aromas reminiscent of peach blossom.

Oolong tea from Taiwan is famous for its high quality. Dong Ding Oolong is a classic green oolong tea that is also called "Jade" Oolong because of its color. The name "Dong Ding" can be translated as "frozen mountain top" and is the name of the mountain where this tea is grown.

Oolong tea from Taiwan

This high-quality tea is produced only in the Nantou region of Taiwan. The picked tea leaves (3–4 leaves are picked from each bush) are left to oxidise briefly (15–30%), which is why they retain their green colour. The leaves are rolled by hand. The flavour is light and fresh.

Oolong falls somewhere between green and black tea. In terms of colour, oolong sometimes resembles green tea, especially when it is briefly oxidised, as with this Dong Ding.

For this type of oolong, Camellia sinensis var. assamica is used. This is a variety of tea plant with large, sturdy leaves. The leaves are bruised and rolled, gradually changing colour as the oxidation takes place under controlled conditions.

Chinese brewing method

As well as following the “usual” brewing instructions described above, it is well worth trying the tea in a gaiwan. This is a small Chinese teapot. A gaiwan really brings out a lot of the tea’s aromas.

Use 5 grams per 110 ml. Use hot water just off the boil, around 95°C. You can also use cooler water, but the tea will have less of a floral aroma.

- First rinse the tea: pour water over it and drain immediately.

- Then pour over more water. You can repeat this 3 to 6 more times, until the tea no longer has any flavour.

- Steep the tea for a short time each time. Start with about 20 seconds, then steep it a little longer for the second and subsequent infusions.

Iced tea

This tea is more than suitable for cold brew (in the fridge) and ambient brew (at room temperature). You can steep the tea for a longer or shorter time, but for a great result, you can start with an hour. The leaves can easily be reused until they no longer impart any flavour to the tea, usually after about 4–5 infusions. The tea tastes just a little different each time!

Frequently Asked Questions

We have briefly summarized the essential information here.

Still have questions? Contact us via our contact page.

How is the tea packaged?

All our loose-leaf tea is packaged in airtight (sealed) bags. The packaging, of course, includes a description of the tea, brewing instructions, and ingredients.

We package your tea with each order. This means that we create and fill the packaging to order.

How long does the tea keep?

Loose tea stores well. In its sealed packaging, the tea is at least good until the date on the package. For pure tea, this is often 2 years. For flavored tea, 1.5 years.

Sustainable packaging

To help protect the environment, we reuse as much used packaging material as possible. If boxes are still sturdy enough, we use them to pack orders. Some boxes may look a little more "used" than others. If a box is no longer sturdy enough, it is shredded and used as filling material to protect items such as porcelain and earthenware.

If a box looks damaged when it arrives, please let us know as soon as possible. Ideally, please email us a photo so we can take a look with you.

    How is tea best stored?

Simply put: store in a cool, dry place.

It is best to store your tea in its closed packaging at room temperature. But once it is open, you can seal the packaging tightly with, for example, a clip or clothespin. But this is neither very nice nor practical.

It is important that as little oxygen as possible can get to your tea. So a sealable tin or jar is handy. And it looks nice.

Light is also not good, so bags with a window or glass jars are less suitable, unless you store them in a dark cabinet.

    Delivery time

For almost all items, the delivery time is 1 to 2 business days. On Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, all packages are dispatched. If an order is placed before 4:00 PM on one of those days, it will usually be delivered the same day.

For coffee, sometimes (when the coffee still needs to be roasted) we need a little extra time. You will then receive a super fresh product. We opt for the highest quality, and that takes a little extra time.

    Pay

You can easily pay with iDEAL, Mastercard or Visa Card with 3D Secure. Safe and reliable.

Of course, you can also pay by manual bank transfer. Please include your order number so that we can quickly link your payment to your order.

    Always something nice at home

In short, there is a TeaBox for every occasion.
