Kilimanjaro Coffee

A new Farmer's Direct coffee from a family business (APK Estate) that has been growing high-quality Arabica at the foot of Kilimanjaro since 2010.
The coffee is carefully grown and harvested. And you can taste it: floral aromas, fresh citrus and a long, juicy finish.
Another special feature: this coffee consists mainly of indigenous, heirloom coffee varieties.

When you choose our Tanzania Kilimanjaro, you support more than just great coffee. For every kilo sold, we donate €0.50 to APK's maize project. This ensures that children at 38 primary schools in the region receive a nutritious meal every day. For many parents—many of whom work on the coffee plantations—this is an important motivation for sending their children to school. A full stomach means better concentration, better opportunities and a healthier future. So your cup of coffee contributes to more than just great taste: it gives children the fuel they need to learn and grow.

Farmer's Direct

By buying the coffee directly from the cooperative, rather than through traditional trading channels, a larger share of the price we pay for it reaches the coffee farmers. There are fewer links in the supply chain between the coffee farmer and the coffee drinker.

APK Estate

On the fertile slopes of mighty Mount Kilimanjaro lies APK Estate: a remarkable coffee plantation where Colombian expertise meets Africa’s rich soil. African Plantations Kilimanjaro (APK) is part of the family business Oro Molido, which has been producing coffee in Colombia for three generations. Since 2010, they have brought their knowledge and craftsmanship to Tanzania, where they grow premium Arabica coffee in a way that is unique in the region: with care for people, the environment and quality.

Thanks to its high-altitude location, mineral-rich volcanic soil and stable, sunny climate near the equator, coffee plants thrive here exceptionally well. Meltwater from Kilimanjaro nourishes the plantations through an ingenious irrigation system, and all the farm’s energy comes from the sun – a sustainable solution in a region with limited access to electricity.

What makes this coffee truly special are the people behind it. Every coffee bean is planted, picked and processed by hand by local employees who work with care and dedication. APK believes that the quality of specialty coffee starts with people, and therefore invests wholeheartedly in their well-being. By fostering local leadership and working with cooperatives, not only does the coffee flourish, but so does the community. Their foundation supports schools and healthcare in the region – 38 schools have received maize, and access to medical check-ups has never been easier.

FRESHLY BAKED

We roast our coffee beans twice a week, so the coffee is always fresh.

Orders are shipped daily. If you order before 4:00 PM, your coffee will be shipped the same day.

Some varieties are roasted especially for you, which may result in a slightly longer delivery time. In that case, we will always send you an email so you know that your order is being processed.

WHOLE BEANS OR GROUND?

Many people grind the beans themselves in a fully automatic machine or with a grinder next to the coffee machine.

No grinder at home? Then we will grind the beans for you. With the 250 and 500 gram packages, you can choose your grind.

Choose the right coffee grind

Although coffee beans stay fresh longest when left unground, we can also grind the coffee for you. Not everyone has a coffee grinder at home, after all.

We grind coffee for filter, espresso, cafetière, etc. Below is a table showing the right grind settings for different brewing methods. Choose your grind setting before adding the coffee to your shopping cart.

We only grind our beans to order in 250 g and 500 g bags. So if, for example, you want a kilo of ground coffee, order 4 x 250 g or 2 x 500 g. You can then open one bag while keeping the others sealed airtight and therefore fresh.

All coffee is packed airtight in a sealed bag with a valve. The valve lets air out of the bag but not in. If air could not escape, the bag could inflate. Fresh coffee releases gases, after all. This is a natural process.

Grind settings

Grind 2: Turkish Extra-fine ground coffee.
Grind 3: Fine espresso ECM, Quickmill, Ascaso, Rancilio, etc.
Grind 4: Espresso Gaggia, Saeco, Krups, DeLonghi, KitchenAid. Domestic espresso machines. Also for stovetop espresso makers.
Grind 5: Drip coffee Standard drip coffee maker, Jura (for the compartment for ground coffee)
Grind 6: Pour-over For filters filled by pouring water over the coffee by hand.
Grind 7:

Cafetière/
French press

Coarse grind for a French press, resulting in less sediment in the coffee
Grind 8: Cona This special brewing system works best with a very coarse grind.

Questions?

Would you like a different grind setting—for example, extra coarse for a Cona or French press? No problem. Leave a note with your order in the shopping cart, or email us.

Sustainable packaging

To help protect the environment, we reuse as much used packaging material as possible. If boxes are still sturdy enough, we use them to pack orders. Some boxes may look a little more "used" than others. If a box is no longer sturdy enough, it is shredded and used as filling material to protect items such as porcelain and earthenware.

If a box looks damaged when it arrives, please let us know as soon as possible. Ideally, please email us a photo so we can take a look with you.

    Delivery time

For almost all items, the delivery time is 1 to 2 business days. On Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, all packages are dispatched. If an order is placed before 4:00 PM on one of those days, it will usually be delivered the same day.

For coffee, sometimes (when the coffee still needs to be roasted) we need a little extra time. You will then receive a super fresh product. We opt for the highest quality, and that takes a little extra time.

    Pay

You can easily pay with iDEAL, Mastercard or Visa Card with 3D Secure. Safe and reliable.

You can also pay by manual bank transfer, of course. Please include your order number so that we can quickly link your payment to your order.
